October Transport Month

by 7-Nov-2018

South Africa celebrates different themes every month. In October, we celebrated the 13th anniversary of the October Transport Month (#OTM_SA2018). The Minister of Transport, Mr. Blade Bonginkosi Nzimande launched the 2018 October Transport month summit in Benoni, on the 5th of October.

October was declared Transport month in 2005 during the Transport Lekgotla and has been celebrated ever since. The month of October is used to raise awareness on the important role of transport in the economy and to encourage participation from all citizens and businesses. The government aims to provide a safe and more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system in the country.

At Hlengani Communications, we joined hands, participated and supported the initiatives presented by our government. In the month of October, as a Public Relations and Communications agency, we raised awareness on the importance of road safety. We developed content and sent out messages on different social media platforms, to inform the public about the importance of road safety and encourage South Africans to be responsible citizens.

Hlengani Communications had a few activities in the month of October which include two radio interviews for our client Zuru on Alex FM and SA FM.

We also organised a media lunch with media personality Journalist Siseko Njobeni from the Business Day, who got to meet our client AfriSam, a concrete, infrastructure and development focused company.

In the same month, we interviewed over thirty Small Medium Enterprises and wrote articles about their experience in the Zimele Program that was sponsored by our client De Beers.

The government held various projects and promotions during transport month. The purpose being to increase road safety and reduce fatalities on the road. The projects included multidisciplinary road blocks and transport month promos across all nine S.A provinces. Developing public transport remains a priority, however we do see major improvements and innovation in our transport system.
